The Managing Director of our company, Dr Kevin Lin (OBE) will be giving a keynote speech on 13th April at the Post-Graduate Research Conference 2016 at the University of Surrey. Attended by about 200 researchers, the conference aims at encouraging cross-discipline research.
‘I consider this conference an opportunity to call for help’, Kevin says, ‘As a discipline, interpreting is seriously under researched and very often misunderstood’.
In his speech, Kevin will talk about the disconnect between the reality of interpreting and prevalent understanding of it. He’ll highlight potentials for cross-disciplinary research. It spans linguistics, psychology, sociology, engineering, product design, translation studies and artificial intelligence. He’ll also comment on the prospect of computers replacing interpreters and translators.
KL Communications is the collaborator of MA Business Interpreting in Chinese at the University of Surrey – a success in its fifth year. We’re responsible for assessing applicants and the teaching of interpreting modules.

We are very excited to announce that four new interpreters will be joining us in March and April 2016.
We already have the largest in-house team of Chinese interpreters in Europe. The new additions will further strengthen our leadership position in the market.
Our company possesses expertise not available in this market. The new recruits will go through the most extensive and demanding training in the profession. In addition to acquiring a range of high-end interpreting skills, they’ll also be trained in specialist terminology across industries, how to handle tricky situations, voice and performance as well as etiquette.

- Foes turned into friends – the leaders of the two parts of Cyprus shook hands on stage to display shared aspiration for a united Cyprus
- The children of the Governor of the World Bank asked their father to do more about climate change
- The Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau declared himself a feminist
- David Cameron spoke eloquently without using auto cue – the only keynote speaker to do that.
- My train from Davos to Zurich was two minutes late.

KL Communications has signed an MOU with Lan-Bridge in China to develop ground breaking training courses for Chinese companies wanting to go international. The signing was witnessed by more than 200 participants to the Forum of Translation and Internationalisation 2016 in Chengdu, China on Wed 13th January. Lan-Bridge is one of the top three language solution providers with nine subsidiaries across China. The jointly designed and delivered training programmes will plug skill shortage and knowledge gaps in Chinese companies. The aim will be to increase competitiveness through improved skill and knowledge level amongst front-line staff as well as managers.

Our team is in action in Stockholm interpreting at the launch of the new MINI Clubman. The most beautiful part will be the scenic drive through Swedish countryside. The hardest part will be when speakers speak at Clubman speed – 0 – 100 in just over 7 seconds. The most pulsating moment will be when Engineers demonstrate high speed zigzagging on the test track. A couple of interpreters were sick during the preview event last month. Not our interpreters.
